A showcase of my visual works
Football Vertical Video Project Pilot
I created a series of vertical football-themed videos to test my video creation skills and learn new techniques.
The goal of this project was to bring my content closer to a professional standard so that in the future, I can get to a level where I am competent at regularly producing this style of content in the workplace.
I have a spreadsheet that I constantly update with video ideas as they come to me. I often get these ideas from consuming a diverse range of content which is not necessarily football-based.
I wrote the scripts for the Gunnar Nielsen and Gift Orban stories, and Euan Legge wrote the script for the Roly Howard story.
I practiced reading the scripts with a stopwatch and edited them down to between 55 and 60 seconds.
To prepare for this project, I studied the works of short-form football content creators such as Jon Nellis and Fiago.
I noted down what I liked and learned how to replicate those particular shots or graphics so that I could recreate them in my editing style.
To come up with the ideas, I chose to select evergreen stories as they would not expire during the time it would take for me to finish the project.
From there, I recorded the video and audio separately and later combined them together in an Adobe Premiere Pro project so that I could get the best possible sound quality.
I then edited the raw video down to its final length, making sure to cut long pauses or poor takes.
This was then used to create a storyboard of shots and graphics that were to be included and when. The idea of this was to streamline the editing process as much as possible.
Then it was time to start the editing process. I split the screen screens vertically and added a spacer between them before slotting and then animating the correct video footage and photos into the assigned windows.
After, I created and animated all of the graphics from scratch. I mixed the vocals before adding in some sound effects to compliment the animations.
Finally, I added in the subtitles and edited them to the middle of the screen before I started the final render.
MLB London Series Social Videos
I was invited to the MLB London series by the British Baseball Federation and BaseballSoftballUK.
I created a series of short-form content curated for social media over the weekend starting with a short vertical vlog from the 'Workout Day' before the main event over the weekend.
Football Matchday Vertical Vlog Content
I watched the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference league as an opportunity to create content about the most interesting stage of European football.
Stylised as a matchday vlog, I wanted to make the video informative and interesting as the subject matter is more of a niche in football.
I combined graphics, slideshows, live footage, and highlight footage to tell the story of both teams and how they fared in the fixture.
Band Life: Bandra Hursel
This piece was created as part of my NCTJ coursework module. It documents the life of youthful London-based jazz-fusion band Bandra Hursel. I attended practice, recording sessions, and live gigs to gain footage and interviews with the band members.
Nostalgic Voices
Created as part of an application to a role at the BBC, I covered a story in my local area. This piece focuses on how Blues fans remember their historic underdog triumph in the 2011 League Cup Final.
